Dr David B Pockulates (1808 - 1860-disspeared) was a radical London based chemist in the early 1830's. His father, Father David R Pockulates was a clergyman with great powerful connections in the realm of Muscular Christianity and went about teaching his son the sports of boxing and weightlifting as ways to increase ones Masculinity and therefore becoming closer to god.

Early Life

David Junior soon realised that his father did not have his own interests at heart and merely wanted to become an eager populist of Muscular Christianity and to fall into favour with its biggest supporters of the time Charles Kingsley and Thomas Hughes. Soon, David packed his bags and left the family home in North-East Hampshire and went to study chemistry at Oxford. It was during his stay at Oxford and frequent visits to central London's outdoor ice skating club, that he was to meet his future wife and lover Christina Georgina Rossetti. They fell deeply in love and he helped her pen some of her most famous poems, including her love poem "Remember". They soon married in 1848, but never had children.

Marriage & Friends

During their marriage, Pockulates worked on various chemical compounds at the time, and is said to have radically changed the way early chemists like Edward Franklin approached his ideas on water. He later became more secretive about his work and decided to move his entire laboratory underground away from the prying eyes of his close chemist friends. He only allowed what he called 'My True Brothers' to visit him. These where two very close friends of his that he had acquired whilst studying at Oxford, Dr Cuthbert D Holloway & Prof Bartholomew Strangeways. Both would apparently visit Pockulates every week to talk and debate the state of the current social climate and to see what he had been working on. According to Strangeways, Cuthbert had decided to give Pockulate the nick name 'Bible Pocket', mainly due to Pockulates family history but also because he would always wear his chemist log book in the bible pocket of his waistcoat. Some say this was a symbol of his resentment towards his father and the acceptance of his own new religion, chemistry.

Reapperance

The visits by Holloway and Strangeways continued for years untill on the night of December 29th 1858, Pockulates & his wife, Rossetti had some kind of disagreement about his work and both vanished from their family home. Holloway and Strangeways had reported that Pockulates had started to experiment with mind altering substances that he believed could allow him to transcend the limits of humanity and become one with his pure self. It is still unclear about what happened on the night of the disappearance but several months later Pockulates reappeared at Strangeways home address in central London. He was apprently suffering from a huge mental seizure and had grown a rather large beard with which he constantly would chew whilst staring into space. He was also wearing an monocle that seemed to be attached to his face and could not be removed. When questioned by Holloway and Strangeways about his wife Rossetti, he would merely mumble something about his basement laboratory and then grimace with great insanity. Holloway and Strangeways decided that to keep Pockulates from harm they would not inform the police of his whereabouts but keep him residence at their huge independently run institute, The Morton Hall.

It is still to this day a mystery what happened to Pockulates wife, the case at Old Scotland Yard is still open due to a continued family involvement.
